Hi folks,
I have been getting random beeps while in Windows 7 (it's a long very loud single beep. with long I don't mean seconds though. In writing I'd say its ' Beeeeeeeeeep'). When I boot I usually get a quick beep from the bios and then it smoothly goes into windows. Once in windows, I get random beeps (no real time interval or anything). I usually get them when I’m watching a movie on VLC, but sometimes also when I’m gaming (Battlefield 1), or not doing anything at all.
Things I changed:
• I converted an external HDD into an internal. I will remove it to see if anything changes.
Other than that these are things I’m considering trying:
• Run BIOS diagnostics
• Update BIOS firmware
• Replace my HDDs (I have 4 installed atm, 2x 1TB, 1x 2TB and 1x 500gb) for a single 4TB drive (my current drives are not close to full capacity, so 4TB should be enough… plus I have an external 4TB drive)
• Replace my PSU.
PC Specs:
• RAM: 2x 4GB Kingston Hyper X Genesis DDR3
• GPU: 1x NVIDIA EVGA 1050 ti SC Gaming
• MOBO: 1x P8P67 pro rev. 3.1
• CPU: Intel i5-2500k (no longer OC)
• CPU Fan: Mugen 2 rev B.
• PSU: Corsair AX1200 (I know there have been issues with these, but I never had any issues… to date?)
• Case: Cooler Master Haf X
• SSD: 1x OCZ 60gb, 1x Crucial 128gb
• LED RBG: 2 strips
Except for my GPU, all components date from 2011. I am only interested in replacing components that might cause the beep. Other than that I don’t want to do a full upgrade (I know most of you will advise me to otherwise )
I used one of the tools to estimate my wattage:
• Estimated wattage, rounded up, 550 W
If replacing my PSU is the general consensus: is 750w enough for 550w usage or should I go 1000W? Or 1200 again? Again, if I don't have to replace anything, I'd rather not. My PSU has never really been dusty, I clean my pc regularly and I doubt I ever ran the PSU at more than 60%.
Thanks a lot and hope someone can help me figure out what's wrong.
Update:
Forgot to mention this: I also added a 2nd CPU fan to my CPU cooler. I had to be a little creative with connectivity. currently the CPU fans are on a manual controller, and the CPU fan controller on my mobo is attached to my side fan of my case. Not optimal but my CPU fans are definitely spinning well and my side panel fan doesnt seem to have any issues (it's less than 6 months old). CPU and GPU temps are low (CPU 31C in idle, high 60s/low 70s under pressure)
Windows 7 update
